Perspective in a Puzzle

At the start of our quarantine, we pulled out a new puzzle with 1,000 pieces. Day by day we have been adding a few more pieces to our masterpiece. Then one day, I was reminded just how important perspective can be.

Let me back up for a minute. BQ (Before quarantine), I sat down to plan out our summer, already overwhelmed at the many activities and sports calendared for the spring. It felt as if my puzzle of life had all of these pieces that I was trying to cram together, hoping they would fit.

In my mind, I knew how I wanted the picture to be, but in reality I was only becoming more overwhelmed by the day.

BQ, had you been in a state of constant GO, too?

When the coronavirus cleared our schedule, we started our puzzle. The kids carefully separated out the edge pieces so we could use the border as a foundation. As they neared the end of our border, we realized we were missing some pieces…nowhere to be found.

We then turned our attention to the inside pieces. I had found my favorite spot around the table but progress stalled. I could not seem to find what I was looking for. I kept searching and searching. It wasn’t until I stood up, walked around the table, and changed my perspective that those hard to find pieces jumped right out at me.

Have you been searching for something you can’t quite put your finger on? Maybe you are missing peace in the midst of this storm? Are you always left feeling like something is missing?

Might I offer that now more than ever we need to change our perspective? God is calling us out of our busyness, out of our habits of constant motion, and away from our focus on pieces that do not fit.

Instead, He wants to reconcile us to Himself. His way is the ONLY way. So if you are tired of carrying your loose pieces around, find rest connected to Him. Allow Him to put your puzzle together. I can assure you His final masterpiece will be far greater than anything we could imagine on our own.

Remember those edge pieces we couldn’t find? They were there all along. When we took the time to evaluate our border, our foundation, we realized there were pieces forced together that weren’t the right fit. We had what we needed all along!

In life, we, too, have exactly just we need. God is here. He is active. He wants us to be still so we can hear His voice.

Exodus 14:14

“God will fight for you you need only to be still.”

May we take some time during this crisis to evaluate our foundation, enter into relationship with Him, and allow Christ to put our pieces back together again.

Perspective, friends. In Him we will come through this time far stronger as we rely on His power.
