Looking for God to show up in your life? Walking a path that’s hard and difficult?
God promises to meet us, wherever we are and in whatever condition we may be. Not only will He meet us, but He will rescue, protect, forgive, and love us unconditionally. But often WE are the ones standing in the way of God’s immense blessing for our lives.
Turn to Matthew 15: 29-39.
Jesus has just miraculously fed 4,000 men (plus women and children) with seven loaves of bread and a few small fish. Everyone ate and all were satisfied…AND they had seven basketfuls of broken pieces LEFTOVER. Jesus gave in abundance…OVERFLOWING!
Why? The scripture tells us because of His COMPASSION. God wants more than anything to fill us up with His Spirit, His mercies, His eternal perspective. Are we prepared to accept His eternal and abundant Bread?
In the very next chapter, chapter 16, scripture tells us the Pharisees and Sadducees came and attempted to test Jesus by asking Him for a sign. I’m going out on a limb here by saying I think these were people so focused on diminishing Jesus’ power that they totally missed out on being in the very presence of the Son of God! They were missing out on the biggest sign of them all…God in the flesh.
After going away from them, Jesus warns His disciples.
Matthew 16:5
“‘Be careful,’ Jesus said to them. ‘Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’”
Jesus wants His closest companions not to lose sight of the Truth….His overflowing Bread of Life. He wants to prepare them for when He is no longer physically with them by putting them on alert against false teaching that can infiltrate and deceive. So how can the disciples guard their hearts? How can they fully enjoy His Truth?
REMEMBER
Matthew 16: 9-10
“…‘Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?’”
He’s instructing us to remember, remember all the times He has worked in us and through us to provide exactly what we needed….and more!!! His Provisions are weaved all throughout our lives. Can you take a moment to remember and reflect?
My friend and fierce Bible study leader encouraged our group to write our love story with God, to physically write down the miracles God has performed in our own lives. Remembrance is such a powerful tool in the stability of our faith, in perseverance, and in not losing sight of God’s goodness.
So will you join me in remembering God’s faithfulness today?
In Him,
Ashley
Psalm 118:24
“This is the day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Thanks for this beautiful reflection, Ashley. Yes, remembering His faithfulness is so important!
